The large leaves in this PlantArt picture belong to Pennantia baylisiana, also known as Three Kings kaikōmako or kaikōmako manawatāwhi. Endemic to Manawatāwhi / Three Kings Islands, this remarkable tree was discovered when just one plant remained.
The smaller leaves in the background are from a hybrid between P. baylisiana and P. corymbosa.
I was invited to create PlantArt from the native plants growing at Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush to celebrate its centenary. It was a real privilege to work with these special plants.
