NZ seaweed

If you’ve never really looked closely at seaweed, give it a go; the colours and shapes are beautiful.

Seaweed and red harakeke flax (Phormium tenax) flowers collected from a beach near Lyall Bay in Wellington. We do have non-native, invasive seaweed species in New Zealand, but I think these are all natives.

My original plan was to make a picture out of seaweed, mollymawk (small albatross) skulls and nasturtium flowers (Tropaeolum majus), but the white of the skulls was too hard to photograph against the dark seaweed (me being an amateur and mostly just using my phone!). (But – see my other picture called Wildflowers and mollymawks).
