How cool and weird and wonderful are New Zealand natives? The stars of the show here are the red flowers of the very special Poor Knights Lily (Xeronema callistemon). This plant is rare in the wild, only occurring naturally on the Poor Knights Islands (near Tutukaka), and on Hen/Taranga Island (near Whangarei).
Other species: spiky brown leaves of fierce lancewood (Pseudopanax ferox), green seed pods of kōwhai (Sophora tetraptera), white flowers of rengarenga lily (Arthropodium cirratum), white fronds of silver fern/ponga (Cyathea dealbata), and the background is the underside of rangiora leaves (Brachyglottis repanda).
