Beauty: our spectacular native ngutukākā/kākābeak (Clianthus puniceus), which is endangered in the wild. And the beast: exotic gorse (Ulex europaeus), invasive throughout New Zealand. Actually gorse isn’t necessarily a beast – it depends where it invades. It’s a nightmare for farmers where it takes over grazing land, but can facilitate native succession in some ecosystems.

For those who like a more ordered approach (and red chillies).
