Yellow-flowered weeds

I’m a weed ecologist in my day job, and often get asked “what’s that yellow-flowered weed I’m seeing everywhere”. Umm, more details please..?!

This pic shows just five of the many yellow-flowered weeds that are highly conspicuous around Wellington (and much of New Zealand) in Spring: gorse (Ulex europaeus), bone-seed (Chrysanthemoides monilifera), Darwin’s barberry (Berberis darwinii – and OK, that one is more orange…), common broom (Cytisus scoparius), and Monspessula broom (Genista monspessulana). Can you figure out which is which?
