Like much of New Zealand, Wellington is a very weedy place. This picture is made up of some of the invasive weeds I encountered on daily COVID-19 lock-down walks around my neighbourhood. I’ve included thirteen species; see if you can spot them all.
Tradescantia (Tradescantia fluminensis), periwinkle (Vinca major), purple pampas (Cortaderia jubata), Japanese honeysuckle (Leycesteria formosa), old man’s beard (Clematis vitalba), blue morning glory (Ipomoea indica), sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus), gorse (Ulex europaeus), broom (Cytisus scoparius), holly (Ilex aquifolium), brush wattle (Paraserianthes lophantha), ivy (Hedera helix), and climbing asparagus (Asparagus scandens).
